Holiday in Singapore: Kill the Time in Changi Airport

29 May

Whenever going to an airport, some people choose to arrive near the departure time. Probably because they already web checked in their seat from home. Some other choose to arrive at least 2 hours before departure time, eventhough they already web checked in from home. Probably because they are afraid of sudden change in flight schedule and makes them late or left behind.

But Changi Airport is not just any airport. It is one the best airport in the world. And as a connecting airport of many flights from and to Asia Pacific, it has many attractions to entertain passengers while waiting for their next flight. On our back home to Indonesia, we purposedly arrive 4 hours before the departure time to be able to visit the attraction sites in Changi Airport. πŸ˜€

Here is the few list of many attractions that we visited in Changi:

Terminal 1: Cactus Garden

It is a rooftop garden with many kinds of cactus planted alive. We love it so much to be here, because it is rooftop garden (no explanation needed, ahem) with airplane runaway as background (so cool). We never imagined Singapore as a green country, especially its airport. Hats down πŸ‘πŸ»

Terminal 2: Koi Pond

For some people, looking at swimming koi fish can give some calm feeling. It is a beautiful view to see the fish swimming around. The fish are big and not afraid of humans. In this pond, kids may feed the fish at the feeding time.

Terminal 3: Butterfly Garden

This place is more beautiful than the cactus garden 😍. Not only alive plants that we can see here, but also the alive butterflies that fly all over the places. As a big city kid, this is where Baby O saw real life butterflies for the first time πŸ™ˆ.

Terminal 3: Birds in Flight

It is a contemporary art of a flock of bird as symbol for traveling. The art which seen as beautiful for some people, and just cool for other people. πŸ™‚

Baby O with The helpful stroller that can be freely rented inside any terminal in the airport. There was also free rented wheelchair for those in need

There are so many attractive attractions in Changi Airport. If we happen to be strandred here for several hours, no need to worry. Make a lemonade out of it πŸ™‚

Holiday in Singapore: One Full Day in Sentosa

8 May

Some people say, it us a waste of money to go on holiday with a baby/toddler. The baby/toddler will not remember it, they say. Oh well, the baby/toddler may not remember it, but there will be pictures of them on holiday to be looked at when they are older, is not that a sweet memory to remember?

And who say the holiday is only for the baby/toddler? The parents might need the holiday more than the baby/toddler. To refresh the parents mind from the hectic daily routines. There is no reason to say no, let us travel with our baby/toddler since they are young. πŸ™‚

With this point of view in mind, husband and I traveled to Singapore with 1 year 1 month old Baby O. We visited Sentosa one full day, before lunch until dinner time. Who said we can not have fun in Sentosa with baby/toddler in hand? There were many attractions to be visited in Sentosa when we traveled with Baby O:

1️⃣ S.E.A. Aquarium in Marine Life Park

Just keep swimming, fish. Next time, we swim together 🐠🐟🐑

Baby O loved to be here. He liked to see the swimming school of fish. Although he was a bit of afraid with the manta fish, probably because it’s way bigger than him in size. πŸ˜€

Behind every #travelingbaby, there are brave parents who think #travelwithbaby is a possible thing to do, because it is possible indeed πŸ‘ΆπŸ»βœˆοΈπŸŽ’πŸ‘£

2️⃣ Trick Eye Museum

Probably not the best destination if there are only 3 people in the group, and we wish to get everybody in the frames. Like the name, it needs special photo angel to get best pictures here, which can not be done by using selfie stick.

3️⃣ (In front of) Universal Studio

Behind every #travelingbaby, there are picky parents who only want to go to #babyfriendly places when #travelwithbaby

The mandatory place to take picture in Sentosa, checked. No, of course we did not enter or even played in the Universal Studio. There was not much attraction for kid below 2 years old here.

4️⃣ (In front of) Sentosa’s Merlion Statue

Behind every #travelingbaby, there are brave parents who think #travelwithbaby is a possible thing to do, because it is possible indeed πŸ‘ΆπŸ»βœˆοΈπŸŽ’πŸ‘£

Not really the mandatory place to take picture in Singapore, since the real Merlion Statue is in Marina Bay Sands. But we took it anyway

5️⃣ Cable Car

Behind every #travelingbaby, there are careful parents who need to adjust the traveling itinerary with baby’s pace

The least expected attraction yet husband and I really enjoyed our time in the cable car. Part of it was because Baby O was half asleep during breastfeeding time. The other part was because we could see Sentosa from above. Never imagined Sentosa could be so green πŸ’š

6️⃣ Skyline Luge

Behind every #travelingbaby, there are exhausted parents who need their kind of holiday too. Including daddy, with his toy cars πŸ‘±πŸ»πŸš—

This was also a surprisingly fun attraction for us. It was an enjoyable ride going down the hill with wheels without any machine on it, just gravity. Husband said, he would definitely ride it again if we visit Singapore sometime in the future πŸ˜€

To go uphill again, we rode provided skyline which kind of like transparant cable car. It was kind of our way to introduce Baby O with height. He cried at first, but it was a good lesson for him that he needed to face his fear to move forward, no need to run away from it. Traveling is about real life learning after all. πŸ™‚

The truth is I could never imagine going on holiday without my best 2 travel buddies. Love you, my boys! 😘

Holiday in Singapore: Beautiful Gardens by the Bay

1 May

We went to Singapore on wednesday, we went back to Indonesia on sunday. During the 5 days 4 night in Singapore, we visited Gardens by the Bay in Marina Bay Sands 3 times. Yes, three. It’s not because we didn’t know where to go. It’s indeed we because we knew exactly where we wanted to go, to visit the unforgetable beautiful Supertree Groove in Gardens by the Bay.

The 1st time we visited, we arrived there at 8PM in the evening. We were just sight seeing the Supertree Groove and OCBC Skyway from below. We were so tired but totally amazed with the combination of light-music attraction performed during night time.

The 2nd time we visited, we arrived there also around 7PM in the evening. We specifically went there to took countless pictures of Supertree Groove and OCBC Skyway from the ground. No shame about it :p

The 3rd time we visited, we arrived there around 6PM in the evening. Bought tickets to go up to the OCBC Skyway. Ate dinner. Queed to go up. Then walked through the OCBC Skyway to enjoy the light-music attraction from the above

Unfortunately, we only visited the Supertree Groove and OCBC Skyway in Gardens by the Bay. We didn’t visit the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome. Which are famous to be also beautiful during day time. Maybe next time when we visit Singapore again. Shall we, husband? πŸ˜‰

Holiday in Singapore: Baby O’s First Time Holiday Abroad

24 Apr

The trip to Singapore was actually a surprise birthday gift from husband to Baby O (March) and me (April). Never saw husband buy the airplane tickets, out of sudden on Baby O’s birthday, husband handed the 2 ways flight tickets to us. He said, “I know it is Baby O’s birthday, but mommy gets birthday gift too”. So there were we, on my 28th birthday.

Thank you very much, dearest husband for the birthday gift. As people say, don’t spend on time-limited things, better spend on timeless memory 😘❀️❀️

Why Singapore?

Not sure why husband chose Singapore, because our original plan was to visiting Thailand. But thankfully he chose correctly, because turned out, Singapore is a very baby friendly country:

β˜‘οΈ It is very easy to find baby room, or at least the Koala Kare (diaper changing station)

β˜‘οΈ Some baby rooms provide hot water dispenser. Very helpful for parents who need to warm baby milk/baby foods

β˜‘οΈ Some baby rooms are equipped with automated door, no need to open/close door with handle πŸ™ŒπŸ»

β˜‘οΈ Pedestrians can be accessed via stair way or slope. Very helpful for parents who use stroller

β˜‘οΈ Public transports (mrt & bus) have reserved seats for parent carrying baby. Other passangers even give seat for without being asked 😱

Very love to go back there again, dear husband πŸ˜‚. Bye now, until Baby O meets you some time in the future πŸ‘ΆπŸ»βœ‹πŸ»πŸ‘‹πŸ»

Story About Taxi Driver

6 Oct

What do you usually do when you’re in a taxi? Do you concentrate on your gadget? Do you sleep? Or do you make a conversation?

Whenever alone in a taxi, I never sleep. Just by thinking of it, sleeping in a taxi, is scary. Not matter how safe do you think the taxi is, perhaps because of the reliable brand, a little advice from me, just don’t ever sleep in it when you’re alone. No matter how close the destination is.

I usually focus on playing with my gadget when I’m in a taxi alone. But in a good mood, I can try to make a conversation. Yes, with the taxi driver. It’s actually fun if the taxi driver likes to talk a lot. We don’t have to spend much effort to make the conversation, because the taxi driver will do most the talking.

In fact, as Pras once said to me, they’re the ones who want to be heard, and not many people want to hear from them. So just listen and appreciate, let them talk. And they’ll be glad to us for that.

What do many people have that taxi driver don’t have? Education? Just so you know, many taxi drivers in the US were asian scientists back in their homeland. They moved to the US with hope of better life and failed. Sad enough to hear their story, huh?

Fame? Don’t you know there’s a famous taxi driver who writes book? He’s globally famous because of it and he has a blog too (read here). Don’t you think you wanna hear his story why does he still drive his taxi with all the fame he has?

Money? Hmm. I once had this long drive back to Sudirman from field observation in Sunter, Jakarta, Indonesia. That was the first time for me to go alone there. So when the taxi driver asked me which way I wanted to go, I just asked him to go which ever that won’t cause us to be caught in a traffic.

Then he suddenly asked, “Still going to college, kak?”. First thing to point out, he used the word of “Kak”. It felt like greeted by the SPGs in any malls in Indonesia nowadays. The most important thing to point out, he thought I’m still a college student! Hell yeah. πŸ™‚

No matter who said it, being guessed as lot younger than we actually are, is the best compliement people at my age could get so far. Thanks pak, you made my day. πŸ™‚

Perhaps it was just a figure of speech, but because of his good act, I asked back about him. And he then told me the story of how prosperous he was and how poor he is at that moment. The prosperous moment was when he was a personal driver in a company, because he got paid big salary and also got big fat bonus whenever the person he drove to got big project. He once got Yamaha motorcycle from the person in charge to make the bidded project goes to the company. The poor moment was indeed when he was the driver in the (blue) taxi company.

The tipping point was when he became greedy of lust and had a second wife, while he actually already had 3 children from the first wife. He loves the first wife so much, but when having much money, people can just change, he said. Now, he has lost everything because getting fired from the company though he still have the 2 wives and the 3 children.

He wisely advised me to be careful with men. Better to be with someone who was naughty once in his youth, while to be with someone who has never been naughty. Because then, the naughty time will be when he’s supposed to be wise and mature. But he didn’t regret anything and will never divorce his first wife. “If I should divorce someone, that must be the second wife, kak”.

Not for the same reason with what @Adriandy, a celebtweet, shared in his tweet last night. But it is true that many taxi driver nowadays are actually “someone something” Β in their past. So, who thought we can never learn lesson of life from a taxi driver?

Pras’ reason to spend time during the drive by talking with the taxi driver is because that’s the way he is, he talks with any kind of people, about any thing. My reason is only to kill time so that I won’t get bored, sometimes it’s also nice to talk with a stranger. Can you find your reason?
