It isn’t about the richness of Indonesian natural resources. This isn’t the only thing we could talk about Indonesia and be proud of. Sometimes we forget how famous Indonesians’ hearts, how kind and friendly the people are.
So we know about the endless war in Gaza, Palestine. Recently, Israel’s Marine attacked peace corps who brought humanitarian helps. That definitely caused world’s anger.
Amongst those peace corps that have been attacked, there are 12 noble-Indonesians who join the mission. They came from MER-C (Emergency Rescue-Committee), KISPA (Indonesian Solidarity Committe for Palestine), and Al Aqsha-Hidayatullah Buddy (Source: Kompas Newspaper 01/06/2010).
It wasn’t the first time for Indonesia to join world peace mission. Have you forget about Misi Perdamaian Garuda (Garuda Peace Corps Mission)? I haven’t. I still remember how amazed I was about those facts when studying History Subject at school.
Indonesia was and still actively contribute to any world peace missions. Indonesia had sent its representatives many times – to Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, etc – in order to fulfill the preamble to the Indonesian Constitution of 1945:
“…and to contribute to the establishment of a world order based on freedom, abiding peace, and social justice..
(…dan ikut melaksanakan ketertiban dunia yang berdasarkan kemerdekaan, perdamaian abadi, dan keadilan sosial…)“
In the meantime, Indonesia wasn’t and isn’t really at peace. There was unstable political and or economical conditions, there are tribes in Papua who are at war at the moment. But still, Indonesia sent and is sending its peace corps to needed foreign countries.
It’s still unknown whether we do this to show the world that “hey! we are still exist and we could do something to contribute to world peace” or we just do anything we could and simply try to be persistent with what we’ve done. Which ever it is, today I am proud to be an Indonesian 🙂
P.S. please God save those souls
