As far as Wikipedia told me, Alpha Male *originally refers to animals* is term to describe a very dominant male, usually over-confident, and very assured of himself. Every Alpha Male has his female, the Alpha Male’s female.

But according to this Alpha Female friend of mine, let’s assume she’s a true one, her partner (read: husband) is the true Alpha Male. Could Alpha Male mate with Alpha Female? Still based on Wikipedia, yes it could. Though it’s rarely happen in the nature.

As for me, I think it’s less likely to be happened. Let’s borrow Twilight Saga definition, that Alpha Male means leader (of the wolves pack). Can two leaders lead the same boat? Go figure.

Two or more dominant persons could not be in the same group, unless each one of them knows their role, and clearly understand when is the time they need to be dominant, when is the time they need to selfless, if only they still want to be together. When one of them already tried being selfless and the other(s) still can’t/don’t want to do the same, no wonder the ego of this one person becomes interrupted.

Only time can answer what will happen next. Or, could you?

I hope not white coat, experiment tube, and or grey hair that came in your mind when I said “my first job is a researcher”, because not all researcher works in a lab. Let’s not figure me as female Albert Einstein, shall we?

I never wished nor figured myself as a reseacher back then. Not only because I’m more an outdoor person, but also because I didn’t know that indoor job could be interesting. As a researcher to be specific. As a market researcher to be precise.

Don’t blame any of you if you don’t know what a market researcher is, moreover if you don’t know what we do. Because based on the Market Researcher Community in Indonesia, the demand of people to be working in this industry is high. While there are only a few people who are currently working in this side of industry, as a client servicing, not as the client itself.

Oops, probably I’ve lost you along the way. I can’t give you clear explanation what a market researcher is. All I can say that:

Market researcher works to know what the market’s desire, opinion, feedback about producer’s product (upcoming and or existing) and its advertising, if any. Market researcher also works to know market’s behaviour when using any product.

Scary? Not really. We couldn’t say we like something or not when we haven’t tried it by ourself, better go figure. I didn’t know what a market researcher before, and I didn’t say “No” when someone offered me the job. Turns out, I like it, it interests me, and I want to learn something from it.

What is your first job anyway?

For you who haven’t work yet because still in school, a little advise from me. Take your time there, learn alot, absorb much, no need to hurry to earn money, especially when your parents are still able to pay for your tuition. Because early maturity is never good, and working world isn’t for those who aren’t ready.

For you who already in the stage of years of work experience, bless you. What you sow, is what you rip. If you have good skills and loyal to the company, I bet you’re in good shape at the moment. Wish I could be there soon. See you on top!

For you who are jobseekers and or already get the first job like me, be careful. The first job we have will define our career path if we want to stay in the same working industry. If after some time we want to have a career in different working industry more over different function to be work as, the first job experience wouldn’t be counted.

As a human, that’s not a waste, because I’m sure we learn alot (if not something) from it. But as an employee, we’ve wasted year(s) of work experience, because the time we’ve spent there wouldn’t be counted in the new place, please do correct me if I’m wrong.

That’s why we better not ends up as a career-jumper like a friend of mine. Be careful in choosing the first job, no need to accept whatever any company offers us. Make sure of ourself, what do we want to be, what do we want to do in the future.

And once we’re in it, learn alot, absorb much. Whatever difficulties we have, whatever disappoinments we face, we need to believe in ourself that we didn’t make the wrong choice and we can survive from it. We need to hang on a little longer, before we make another decision that could shape our future. That is the time when we need to have good preparation, better to think than blink in quick decision.

Some say, career-jumpers are those who run away from what their present. Those who aren’t grateful for what they already have at the moment. Others say, career-jumpers are those who are brave enough to admit that they made the wrong decision. And or those who are brave enough to leave their comfort zone and look for better opportunity at the new place.

Which one do you believe in?

At this point of time, I divide my life into pre-boyfriend and post-boyfriend eras. Pre-boyfriend era ended on July this year when I was officially dating my current boyfriend. Post-boyfriend era, with many fights, tears, smiles, loves, and struggles, is still continue until now. Let’s hope there will be happy ending for us both, amen. <3

The fights and struggles were merely because boyfriend and I are basically different types of person. Cliche, I know, but it’s true. One of the difference is I’m a spare-time-blogger (micro or a complete one), somehow by default I engage with social media alot. Boyfriend in the other hand is someone who, I’m borrowing his word, lives in the real life, unlike me who’s trapped in the cyber world alot.

Pre-boyfriend era was me and my gadgets all the time. Though I socially hanged out and had fun with friends, my hand will never be emptied from my handphone and or my laptop. My twitter account never fall to be updated once in an hour, if not every minutes, even when I was attending a class in college. I knew my friends’ condition by reading through their tweets, not by personally contacting them or so. I even knew alot about celebtwit’s circle of life, the ones that I never met of. More like a stalker, yes I’m aware of that.

Post-boyfriend era means me and boyfriend only, like ALL the time. Less time to update my status on twitter even to hold my handphone more than 5 minutes. Most of the time, when I’m with him, my handphone is safely placed in my bag. How does it feel to have a smartphone in your bag but not be able to use it because of some restriction which is not related to phone credit?

At first, it felt weird to not hold my handphone at my palm anywhere I go. But by the time being, the truth is, I miss nothing. With less time to play with my handphone thus less time to be enganged on twitter, I actually more enganged with my surroundings. At least, I was becoming more aware with people who are physically around me, like people on the side road, those in the same public transportation with me, and the like.

In pre-boyfriend era, in every chance I had, I’ll look at my handphone’s screen the most, just to read people that I follow’s recent tweets, even when I was in the public transportation. I couldn’t hear when the street musicians sang because it just consumed my attention. I wouldn’t noticed if there’s anything happened outside the window (read: in the real world).

In post-boyfriend era, I learned that even a slightest attention to those street musicians, even if we didn’t give them any money, is meaningful for them. Just smile politely, and they’ll smile back at us. Which is meaningful for me too, because I looked and heard more than something I seen on mobile phone screen. There’s a feeling I couldn’t explain everytime I see stranger’s sincere smile.

The one thing that holding me back to never lost contact with twitter is the fact that I got my current job because of it, I owe it THAT much. I read a tweet about job opening in my current company through someone’s timeline. I applied, tested, and accepted to work here until present time.

Social media costed me time I should’ve spent more wisely in the past, but it paid back by giving me a job to work for at the moment. So what does it affect me? You decide.

If we’re still young and single, rent a room in some house or live in a dorm could be an option. But how would it be for us if we are too young to live by ourself, financially incapable to rent a room, or already have a house to live with our own family? Railing the road every morning and when get back home is the only most possible way.

We all know how massive crowd in big city, especially Jakarta, could be regarding to transportation. Bless you who already own your car. I really hope the use of your car is optimal by carrying 4 or 5 passengers per travel, so the car’s contribution to the air pollution could be minimized.

It’s an important matter, indeed. A senior of my friend choose to buy house in rural area and travel to office also back home by train instead of rent a room near office but travel to office and get back by car. Environmentally and financially smart one, I think.

Bless you who own motorbike. Traveling by motorbike is far more exhausting than traveling by car in the same travel distance, let alone by public transportation, if I may say. There’s no back support while traveling by it, plus we always have to keep our balance, and don’t forget the lack safety of it. For whatever stereotype people have in mind for motorbike riders, I wish you who travel by it always safely arrive at destination.

And what’s left for people who don’t have their own vehicle? Public transportation, it is. When I lived in Riau, the only public transportation I know was taxi. When I moved to Bandung, the knowledge of it became wider into angkot and ojeg. Now that I currently breathing the air of capital city, I’ve tried all kind of public road transportation that I can think of. Taxi, angkot, omprengan, ojeg, metromini, kopaja, damri, economic train, commuter train, you name it.

There’s always a bargain value when we choose something over others. When we choose to reach our destination by public transportation, what value drives us the most? Cost, travel time, travel distance, travel schedule, comfortness, pride, prestige, or others?

I still live in my aunt’s house in East Jakarta while my office is in Central Jakarta. I used to go and back home by metromini, spent 4 hours in total per day on the road. Went out from house when the rooster is still asleep. Arrived at home when the owl is about to wake up. Tired, sleepless, no days without these.

But thank goodness there are many public transportation options we could have when we live in big city like Jakarta. These days, I go to office by commuter train and back home by angkot. I can have 2 more hours a day on the bed. The new option surely cost me more than the old one, but worth every penny of it.

I choose to pay for less travel time and more comfortness. What about you?

In the past 3 months, I’ve been working in a market research company in Jakarta. For you who follow my twitter or a friend of mine in facebook, might’ve seen me posted things related to work there.

In every project I handle, I always deal with questionnaire, translated or backtranslated one. One of the possible question will ask about respondent’s age. Stated there, if the respondent refuse to mention his/her age, the interviewer are allowed to guess his/her age.

If I’m the interviewer, believe me, I won’t be fully succeeded in completing that question. Because I rarely correct on guessing people’s age. Better be positive thinking than hurt other’s feeling, right? N0T.

Better be truth, than hurtful in the last. Because no matter what we’re hiding, it will come out in the end.

In my case, I usually under-guess (too young) or over-guess (too old) people’s age. For you whom I might’ve hurt, really sorry for that.

In a related matter, what if we incorrectly guessing elder people’s age? It is known that we better give our seat to elder people, for them to sit down, especially in public transportation. But how old?

In my opinion, the rightful people to be given our seat are the ones who already retired from their conventional job. If we give a seat to someone’s below retirement age, we could’ve hurt their feeling. They aren’t working anymore means they become handicapped in the society, hence we need to help them. As long as they’re still able to work, why give them any easiness?

If they’re still able to do the conventional job like the rest of us, youngsters, they also must be able to stand up in a public transportation for a couple minutes, right? If you aren’t, please kindly take your pension, dear sir/madame.

Please do correct me if I’m wrong.

“Whether or not a relationship will still be going on, mostly it depends on the guy. If the guy says, they’re over, no matter how hard the girl wants them to be in a relationship, it won’t happen. If the boy says, they aren’t over, no matter how bad the girl wants them to break up, they will still be an item”.

Based on this knowledge, I let a guy into my life. Correction, I thought he’s a guy, he’s actually still a boy, more or less. It’s not a bad thing though, if you want and or need more dramas in your life.

What’s the difference between them? When a guy says to his partner that their relationship is over, it really means they’re over. When a boy says so, he doesn’t really want them to be over, he just say the word of ‘over’ lightly, because… I don’t know. Can you please cooperate that with me?

It’s one funny thing, actually. Because when a guy says he’s over with his partner, he’ll move on. When a boys says so, he’ll ask his partner to be back to him, eventually, by the time being. So what does the boy really want? What does he really mean? I seriously have no idea.

When you’re in a relationship with that kind of guy, you’ll respect your relationship, and the guy more over, because the word of ‘over’ is sacred to both of you. As sacred as the word of ‘talak’ in a marriage, due to my religion. No matter how many the wife says that word, the marriage will still be going on. Different story if it’s the husband who says so.

When you’re in a relationship with that kind of boy, bless you girl. Please kindly share your experience with me. Do you also feel like having a relationship with a teenager, like I do?

P.S.: Dear you, I’ve accepted you the way you are, I’ve compromised enough with it. But I don’t think I can take that any longer, when it’s not worth trying. Because you don’t respect us, more over you don’t believe in me.

There’s no other guy, I do still love you. But I can’t be in an unhealthy relationship anymore. I’ve learned alot from you, it’s true like you said in your notes, that’s why I really thanked you for that. And I’m still thanking you, until now.

I’m done with having Teenage Dream as the soundtrack of my life in the past few months. Let’s grow up now.

Dear Tidi, who says long distance relationship couldnt work? You could work that out with Ade, and with me and the girls too. Aussie is still in the same world with Indonesia, and a year isn’t that long.

I used to do that when I was alone. What other choices do we have, right? I was not comfort and not interested in to observing people around me (read: strangers) especially in short distance. We could always look and observe outside to see for the view but that would be boring if the view outside is our daily sight.

I also used to read books in moving vehicle, but I didn’t want to do that anymore. Therefore the portable music player became handy. Yes, I was (and still am) that socially awkward :p.

Some of us think what’s the use of our handphones if not to use it in waiting in public transportation until we reach our destination. We don’t have to think whether we need to smile or to talk to people next to us while our eyes are glued to our handphones’ screen.

But we actually could see and hear more than we could do. Put our earphones, book, handphone, or whatever barrier we get from stopping us to interact with the surrounding down, and hear them. And see them. We are social creatures after all.

Real interaction with real people is alot warmer than interact through technology. There are lots of talented street musicians out there. There are lots of true artists who will still play their instruments whether people are hearing them or not. There are people who play music not because of their job but because they want to speak out their heart and mind, because of their soul.

Did you realize that?

Put our earphones on, read our books, play our handphones, but please kindly put them down when we see any street musicians come approach us. Simply hear them and they’ll be really grateful to us.

P.S.: Dear you, thank you for the idea. Though perhaps it doesn’t come out the way you wish it to be.

That means, this year my identity card is expired and I have to extend it to be valid in the next 5 years. I don’t know whether we can extend our (almost) expired identity card a month before the due date, but I didn’t do it. My fault was I waited until my birthday and did the work to extend the card on the following monday. As you all may know, our identity card expires at our birthday.

Problem came on my visit last 2 weeks to the capital city. During those several days, I had to come to several skycrapers that needed my identity card to get me a pass card of the building. Some of the security were okay with my photocopied identity card. Some were okay with my (also expired :p) student card. Some weren’t.

Those who weren’t, asked for my driving license. Heck you, I still don’t have one. They were also asked for my passport if I don’t have any. What a joke. Why on earth would I bring my passport to Jakarta if I don’t have any intention to go another country that day.

For you whose identity card will be expired, be prepare. To get an extended identity card, we shall wait for another 3 weeks to get the whole process done. If you’re about to go anywhere that needed original identity card, come fetch an driving license or passport anywhere you go.

Don’t waste a full 15 minutes on the security check point like I did. Troublesome.

Last week visit was the first time I wandered around the capital city by myself. Not always alone by myself of course, because most of the times I got some nice company (thank You <3). I mean, by myself, without any parents supervised. You gotta clapped your hands for me on that one. :p

There were times when I had to go alone by myself and got me thinking, “I feel so alone in this massive crowds”. I never feel that way in the crowds of Bandung. Think of how massive the crowds in Bandung could be compare to in capital city. Dear Jakartans, do you ever feel that way?

Or when people were hastily moved from one place to another. I could never stand their pace. Why were they so hurry when the night was still young? My nice company, at that time, responded, “They want their fine rest. They wanna meet their family that they left at home because of working. Quickly”. Translation, they don’t wanna grow old on the road.

The simple rule of living a life in the big city that I didn’t understand. Now I do. We should never wait for a crowdless public transportation. Grab any opportunities that we can grab, because they won’t come twice.

If we travel with our loved ones, we perhaps don’t wanna arrive at the destination in a hurry. If we travel with our loved ones, everything runs slow in a nice way and we’re fine with that. If we travel alone and left our loved ones at home, we certainly don’t wanna waste our time in the messed up traffic, especially in the messed up traffic of capital city.

Or the label of kid that I put on myself isn’t suited anymore.

People do revenge means something bad happened to them first. It’s our reaction to treat other person the same way we were treated. But of course, revenge isn’t a must. And only wise people choose not to do so. While treating other people the way we want to be treated takes initiative and courage. Initiative to do the good deeds first. Courage to forget the past and move on to the present life we have.

If we treat people good, then the eye we will get after is another good thing. If we treat people bad, then the eye we will get after is possibly another bad things. Why possibly? Because there is still a chance that the other hand uses his/her courage to forget the way we treated him/her and takes an initiative to do the good thing back to us instead. Or, he/she do the bad thing to us as been told by ‘An eye for an eye’.

If the other people do not the eye-thingy back to us, believe me, there will always be party that will generously do it back to us. The universe for example. Or in tangible way, the court house. Have you ever think why people suffer death penalty? Mostly because they vanish other people’s life, I don’t know the case that doesn’t. But do you really think they deserve to die?

‘An eye for an eye’ is really a bad term. Only optimistic people can change it into a good one. Thus, the court sentences someone to die means the court kills the man itself. In other word, the court applies the ‘an eye for an eye’ terms, means the court is also the bad one here.

Because I think, no human can sentence other human to die, not even human’s law. It’s God, the one who has the only right to tell when is human’s time is up this life. What can human do to the bad person is to give a lifetime punishment. Or, to lend a hand for the eye that person had thrown in his/her life.

With this post, I hereby sign my support to demolish any death penalty in all court houses in the world. Because no person deserves to die, unless God tells to.

Film yang diangkat dari novel dengan judul yang sama sudah lama dirilis, tapi saya baru mempunyai kesempatan untuk membaca novelnya. Ya, saya lebih dulu menonton versi film dari cerita yang ditulis Jodi Picoult daripada versi novel. Kenapa saya sebut versi? Karena walaupun diangkat dari novel yang berjudul sama, film My Sister’s Keeper mempunyai cerita yang jauh berbeda.

My Sister’s Keeper bercerita tentang keluarga normal Fitzgerald, terdiri dari ayah (Brian), ibu (Sara), dan 2 anak (Jesse dan Kate), yang harus menjalankan hidup yang tidak normal sejak Kate divonis menderita leukemia pada usia 2 tahun. Jesse saat itu berusia 4 tahun. Dalam usaha mengobati Kate dapat dilakukan donor organ, namun sayangnya Jesse bukan donor yang cocok. Sehingga, atas saran dokter, Sara melahirkan anak hasil rekayasa genetika, kemudian diberi nama Anna, sehingga dapat menjadi donor yang cocok bagi Kate. Konflik dimulai saat Anna berusia 13 tahun, menyewa pengacara, Campbell, untuk menuntut orangtuanya agar dapat memiliki kontrol sepenuhnya terhadap tubuhnya, termasuk tidak mendonorkan ginjalnya kepada Kate, saat itu berusia 16 tahun, seperti yang Sara minta.

Kita semua pasti setuju bahwa jika ingin mendapatkan detail dari sebuah cerita, bacalah novelnya. Jika ingin mendapatkan visualiasi, maka tontonlah filmnya. Untuk alasan yang sama, ketidakemengertian saya atas tiba-tiba jatuhnya Campbell saat menonton film terjawab sudah saat membaca novelnya. Walaupun adegan jatuhnya Campbell versi film berbeda dengan versi novel.

Juga terdapat tokoh Julia pada versi novel yang dihilangkan dari versi film. Julia merupakan pengawas dari persidangan yang memberikan penilaian apakah Anna sudah cukup dewasa untuk mengambil keputusan sendiri, mengingat saat itu usianya belum mencapai usia dewasa 18 tahun. Julia memegang peranan penting dalam mengubah pemikiran Anna untuk akhirnya mau bersaksi di persidangan, pada versi novel. Sedangkan pada versi film, kejujuran yang akhirnya diungkapkan Anna di persidangan dipengaruhi oleh Jesse, yang tidak banyak diceritakan dalam versi novel. Namun menurut saya, invnsibility Jesse dalam versi novel sangat sesuai dengan karakter yang diciptakan dan plot cerita yang dibangun.

Secara keseluruhan, saya menilai versi novel lebih baik daripada versi film. Pengaruh yang ditimbulkan Sara dan Brian dalam memberikan perhatian kepada Kate terhadap Jesse lebih masuk diakal pada versi novel dibanding versi film. Pada versi novel, Jesse mencari perhatian karena dia invincible di mata kedua orangtuanya. Sedangkan pada versi film, Jesse juga membutuhkan perhatian lebih karena disleksia yang dideritanya.

Saya akui, adegan Jesse membuang hasil karyanya di atap rumah sakit pada versi film sangat menyentuh. Tetapi saya yakin, adegan Jesse membakar pada versi novel akan lebih menyentuh jika divisualisasikan dalam adegan film, jika penonton dibuat mengerti alasan Jesse melakukan hal tersebut seperti pada versi novel.

Akan tetapi, menurut saya ending cerita My Sister’s Keeper lebih masuk diakal pada versi film dibanding versi novelnya. Karena, there’s no coincidence in life, only miracle, which rarely happens, only to extraordinary person. And that certain Fitzgerald doesn’t deserve to be that extraordinary. Or maybe, that’s the exact reason why the novel version is better than the movie version.

Bagaimana ending ceritanya? Baca, tonton, dan buktikan sendiri!

Bagi kamu yang tidak percaya, yakinlah kalau ternyata hukum karma memang berlaku. Juga jangan pernah menyatakan ketidaksukaan pada sesuatu, karena suatu saat penilaian kita bisa berubah.

Saya yang saat sekolah anti-memakai-Converse, saat kuliah ternyata tidak bisa lepas dari Converse. Untungnya saya kuliah di universitas yang rasio perempuan dan laki-lakinya hampir sama banyak. Bayangkan kalau saya harus kuliah di universitas yang lebih banyak perempuannya sehingga menuntut mahasiswinya untuk menjadi feminine, seperti universitas yang saya kunjungi pagi tadi.

Berdasarkan pengalaman saat sekolah dan meminjam sebentar sepatu Converse bukan-warna-hitam milik adik saya, saya jadi yakin kalau sepatu keds paling nyaman dengan harga terjangkau itu memang sepatu keds dengan merk Converse. Terlebih lagi, saat kuliah dibebaskan mau memakai sepatu jenis apa warna apa. Bagi dosen-dosen di jurusan saya, yang penting mahasiswa memakai sepatu yang menutup seluruh kaki saat kuliah. Pakai sendal? Alamat diusir dari kelas.

Coba tebak, sepatu saya yang mana?

Pernah saya memakai flat shoes ke kampus. Sayang, nasib si sepatu tidak bertahan lama, hanya dalam hitungan beberapa bulan. Mungkin karena kelakuan saya saat memakai flat shoes masih sama grasak-grusuknya dengan ketika saya memakai sepatu keds. :p Alhasil, sepatu cewek yang saya miliki saat ini hanya sepatu formal yang tidak akan mungkin dipakai ke kampus kecuali saat sidang kemarin.

Bahkan, saat sudah lulus pun *sombongnya,  baru juga beberapa hari :p*, saya masih bernyaman-nyaman ria memakai sepatu Converse. Ayah saya sampai komentar, “Udah lulus masih kayak yang gitu juga sepatu kamu?“. Haha, ampun pa.

Saya harus bisa cari kerja yang tidak mengharuskan karyawatinya memakai sepatu berhak. Ada tidak ya? Atau mungkin harapan itu sebenarnya cerminan dari saya belum siap untuk masuk ke dunia kerja?

Selama penulisan Tugas Akhir Sarjana ini, sangat banyak pengalaman dan pembelajaran yang penulis dapatkan. Semoga Tugas Akhir Sarjana ini dapat memberikan manfaat bagi kepentingan akademis pada umumnya dan Direktorat Perencanaan & Pengembangan Sumber Daya PT. PINDAD (Persero) pada khususnya.

Bayangkan apa yang terjadi kalau 1 hari saja kamu tidak minum air.
Pusing. Dehidrasi. Kulit kering. Efeknya baru terasa beberapa jam setelah kamu tidak memberikan asupan air mineral ke dalam tubuh kamu.

Bayangkan apa yang terjadi 1 hari saja kamu tidak mendapatkan sumber listrik.
Tidak bisa minum air hangat, karena air mineral kamu bersumber dari dispenser. Tidak bisa makan nasi, karena tidak bisa dimasak tanpa rice cooker. Tidak bisa mandi, karena sumber air kamu dapatkan dengan bantuan pompa air. Tidak bisa menonton tv, menghidupkan komputer, dan yang paling penting, tidak ada sumber cahaya.

Bayangkan apa jadinya kalau PLN memutuskan aliran listrik sekompleks perumahan kamu mulai dari makan siang sampai tengah malam, padahal kamu seharusnya mengerjakan skripsi.
Curhat colongan, yes I am, really sorry for the rant. Tanpa pemberitahuan apa-apa, dua hari yang lalu kejadian di atas menimpa saya.

Lupakan sejenak tidak bisa koneksi ke internet karena Telkomsel tiba-tiba lemot. Saya terhambat mengerjakan slide presentasi karena kompleks rumah saya terkena pemadaman. Tidak ada sumber cahaya, tidak bisa menghidupkan laptop karena masalah baterai. Harap maklum, usia laptop saya sudah mencapai kepala 40 bulan.

Tidak jadi masalah kalau ada pemberitahuan sebelumnya, sehingga penghuni rumah bisa mengatur aktivitas di luar rumah. Tidak jadi masalah kalau pemadaman hanya beberapa jam. Kenyataannya, listrik baru dihidupkan pukul 12 malam. Sukses 2 batang lilin dihabiskan untuk penerangan di rumah setelah matahari terbenam.

Derita bertambah saat baterai handphone saya tiba-tiba habis setelah makan malam. Terasing? Hell, I was.

We could learn about japan alot from Detective Conan. Could you believe I learned about Narita International Airport from it? We could learn about classical music from Nodame Cantabile and Piano No Mori. Rachmaninoff, Chopin, beat me. We could learn about medical things from Say Hell to Black Jack, the one that led me watching tons of hollywood serial tv about lifes in the hospital.

We could learn about working environment from Dilbert. I’ve been reading it since I was still in school from Kompas Newspaper, not understand any of the jokes, until now, the time for me to enter the real life. We could learn about campus life from PhD Comics. I’m not a graduate student, but I could enjoy most of the strips because it turns out all campus life is almost the same.

What do we have when there’s no entertainment left at home? Our television, I guess. Don’t expect too much from local programs. I rather choose to watch Upin & Ipin than to watch any of those unimaginably nonsense sinetron. We could learn too many life lessons and wisdoms without being bored by it. And the most inspirational cartoons for me by far? SpongeBob SquarePants!

I remember how I used to dislike SpongeBob when I was still in junior high school and grunted whenever it was aired on television. It just didn’t make any sense to me. A living sponge which talks like human and lives under the sea? Those citizens of Bikini Bottom also have rainy days, again, under the sea, and all normal things like us who normally live above the sea. No way.

Don’t blame me if Stephen Hillenburg meant to create SpongeBob as a sea sponge instead of a kitchen sponge.

But by time, I learned that the living sponge isn’t the kitchen sponge we use to wash the dishes, but the sea sponge that indeed is a living creature, thanks to senior high school biology! And hey, all cartoons are not making any of our senses, that’s the beauty of them. That’s why they’re cartoons.

Or perhaps, I didn’t like to watch SpongeBob in the past because I didn’t really understand the jokes, hence I saw it weird. And whoever says SpongeBob SquarePants is something for kids to watch, I tell you what, it’s not. Whoever says mangas are something for kids to read, I tell you what, they’re not. They’re actually made for adults in a cute way, so kids (and people who don’t know) will disguise it as kids’ consumable goods.

Draft skripsi, check. One step closer to whatever it is I wish to achieve in the future. I really hope this year will be better than the last one. So far, the first two months of the year was promising. Thank goodness, and all people that have been supporting me all this time. Yes, you.

Buat kamu yang lagi akan atau sedang menyusun skripsi, satu pesan saya. Jangan percaya dengan pengalaman baik (baca: timeline optimis) orang lain saat menyusun skripsi. Just don’t.

Jangan percaya kalau ada yang bilang menyusun skripsi itu bisa dikebut dalam 2 bulan saja, katanya “asalkan udah tau apa yang mau dikerjakan”. Jangan percaya kalau ada yang bilang pengolahan data itu bisa dikerjakan dalam 1 minggu saja, katanya “tinggal klik klik, kan pake software”. Jangan percaya kalau ada yang bilang analisis itu bisa selesai dalam sehari, katanya “ngemeng doang, cepetlah”.

Ndasmu.

Kalau ada yang benar-benar bisa mengerjakan skripsi hanya dalam 2 bulan saja, saya angkat alis setinggi-tingginya. Tidak terbayangkan oleh saya makhluk yang terbuat dari apa yang bisa melakukan seperti itu. Saya yang dua bulan baru sampai pengolahan di excel belum memasukkan ke dalam laporan saja sudah jadi setengah zombie, apalagi yang bisa mengerjakan skripsi hanya dalam 2 bulan tapi sudah selesai kesimpulan saran. Salut!

Kadang, hambatan dalam mengerjakan skripsi bukan datang dari dalam diri kita, seperti rasa malas. Tapi juga berhubungan dengan manusia lain yang punya andil dalam skripsi kita, seperti responden, dosen pembimbing, orang tua, keluarga, pacar *kalau punya*, teman seperjuangan mengerjakan skripsi, ibu kantin, bapak angkot, mas2 fotocopyan. Hell, the universe.

Melalui postingan ini, saya ingin minta maaf kepada responden-responden penelitian yang sudah saya repotkan. Kepada karyawan-karyawan perusahaan yang ikut terepotkan karena pengambilan data saya. Pembimbing-pembimbing skripsi saya (yes, they’re more than one!). Ayah, ibu, adik-adik, dan keluarga besar. Teman-teman seperjuangan mengerjakan skripsi. Teman-teman yang tidak mengerjakan skripsi tapi ikut terepotkan karena saya mengerjakan skripsi. Teman-teman yang sudah banyak membantu, mengajarkan, melancarkan, menyemangati, dan memaklumi selama saya mengerjakan skripsi. Again, you.

Di sela-sela kepenatan mengerjakan tugas akhir, saya masih menyempatkan diri untuk menonton serial tv hollywood, salah satunya Glee. Pada episod 8 (Furt) season 2, Ken menyatakan janjinya untuk menikahi Barbie suatu saat nanti sambil mengeluarkan sebuah cincin, cincin perjanjian. Barbie menjawab, “What are you, six?“.

Lucu. Dan unyu.

Promise ring dan six years old kids membawa memori saya kembali ke masa SD, saat ada Anggi dan saya. Ikrar (baca: lelucon) tersebut diucapkan saat kami masih kelas 1 SD. Percayalah, kami bahkan belum mengerti konsep menikah.

Saat kelas 2 saya harus pindah ke kota lain. Belum canggihnya komunikasi pada masa itu, saya pun kehilangan kontak dengan Anggi. Saya tidak tau harus senang atau sedih atas kepindahan saya dan hilangnya kontak antara saya dengan Anggi. Dalam usia yang sangat muda sudah terikat pada satu orang.

Romantis, sekaligus menyeramkan.

Tentu saja saya yang sekarang ini tidak menganggap serius ikrar (baca: lelucon) masa kecil itu. Saya tidak tau mantan calon suami saya itu sekarang ada dimana dan bagaimana kabarnya. Saya bahkan akan sangat kaget kalau ternyata saya bukan satu-satunya yang masih ingat pada ikrar (baca: lelucon) tersebut.

Namanya Anggi. Saya bahkan sudah tidak ingat nama panjangnya. Saya dan Anggi pernah berjanji, saat masih kecil, akan menikah saat sudah besar nanti. Janji seperti itu yang (sepertinya) boleh tidak ditepati.

Atau, janji seperti itu yang tidak boleh dengan gampangnya diucapkan.

According to TempoDulu in his unthinkable-creative-post we are somewhat related to other people who have the same race and live in the same country with us. They might not be our close relatives, but our ancestors must have been related somehow. Because if not, think of how many possible humans live on earth.

If we are currently in a serious relationship with same originated people, think twice to carry on to the next stage. I know it’s not like we’re going to marry our own cousins, not many of us do this as much as our parents’ generation. But still, same race same country means possibilty to be related.

Long story short, we better think to marry foreigners rather than to other Indonesian passport holders if we don’t want our predecessors to carry on Haemophilia or other genetic diseases. And no, Malaysians are still not options for us :p

Tanggapan suporter bola di Indonesia pasca kekalahan timnas berbeda-beda. Ada yang bangga melihat permainan timnas di final leg kedua. Ada yang sedih karena piala yang sepertinya sudah dalam genggaman itu terlepas dari tangan. Ada yang masih belum bisa menerima kekalahan dengan mencari-cari kambing hitam penyebab timnas kalah.

Ada juga yang menyatakan, “kalah menang bukan yang utama, it’s just a game“. Yang penting timnas sudah menunjukkan kemajuan dan timnas yang saat ini dirasa mampu untuk lebih berprestasi di masa depan. Kalau bukan positive thinking namanya, sepertinya menghibur diri lebih tepat.

Lagu kebangsaan milik suporter Indonesia itu sebenarnya sudah lama dinyanyikan di setiap pertandingan timnas. Hanya saja, lagu tersebut di-remake oleh band Netral sebagai soundtrack film berjudul sama dengan judul lagunya, Garuda di Dadaku, dengan penambahan beberapa baris lirik.

Bedanya, penggalan Garuda di Dadaku bisa dinyanyikan suporter di setiap pertandingan sebagai yel-yel penyemangat timnas Indonesia. Sedangkan Represent sepertinya tidak dinyanyikan selama pertandingan oleh suporter US.

Dari lirik lagu, kesan yang saya dapat pun beda. Represent seolah ingin mengatakan pemikiran suporter US bahwa timnas US harus menang, kalau tidak ingin membuat malu keluarganya, bangsa Amerika. Sedangkan Garuda di Dadaku menyatakan pengharapan dan keyakinan suporter Indonesia bahwa timnas bisa menang.

Arogansi negara adidaya? Mungkin saja. Kerendahan hati bangsa timur? Mungkin saja.

Sebagai negara adidaya, suporter US terbiasa dengan superioritas, oleh karena itu menang dan kalah adalah hal yang penting bagi mereka, it’s beyond a game. Sebagai goal oriented, kemenangan (dalam segala hal) adalah mutlak bagi bangsa US (ditunjukkan dari lagu Represent).

Sebagai negara yang berperang dengan tangan sendiri dari penjajahan untuk mendapatkan kemerdekaan, menang dan kalah adalah nomor sekian bagi bangsa Indonesia. Bagi kita, yang penting adalah semangat berjuang yang ditunjukkan pemain timnas selama bertanding, di lapangan (ditunjukkan dari lagu Garuda di Dadaku).

Jadi, mungkin ada benarnya yang bilang bangga terhadap timnas walaupun tidak memenangkan Piala. Bisa jadi Perasaan tersebut memang benar-benar dirasakan sebagian suporter Indonesia, tidak hanya ucapan manis belaka. Apalagi bagi mereka yang menghargai proses dan tidak berorientasi pada hasil akhir semata.

Pada pertandingan pertama semifinal, Indonesia yang hanya mempunyai 2 orang pemain naturalisasi dapat mengadalahkan Filipina yang memiliki 9 pemain naturalisasi. Sadarkah kita? Ini sepakbola! Olahraga yang membutuhkan kolektifitas tim, tidak hanya skill individu pemain-pemainnya. Walaupun Gonzales dan Bachdim mempunyai peran yang besar pada keberhasilan timnas di pertandingan-pertandingan sebelumnya, pemain lain pun memiliki peran yang sama besarnya.

Mengenai naturalisasi pemain sepakbola, sudah pernah saya singgung sedikit disini. Sebagai pendukung naturalisasi atlet (tidak hanya cabang olahraga sepakbola) dengan catatan pembinaan sejak dini di Indonesia lebih ditingkatkan lagi, saya mendukung Nurdin Halid harus tetap mundur dari jabatannya. Catatan baik prestasi Indonesia bukan berarti sebuah alasan bagi beliau untuk tidak mundur dari jabatannya. Sir, you’re still a criminal suspect.

Kehebohan berita naturalisasi pemain ini kalau dilihat lebih jauh ternyata hanyalah milik seorang pemain naturalisasi, Bachdim. Mungkin karena ini adalah tahun pertamanya di Indonesia dan bisa langsung masuk ke tim nasional, mengingat Gonzales sudah sangat dikenal oleh publik Indonesia. Ditambah lagi, Bachdim memiliki kharisma tersendiri dimata penonton wanita.

Antusiasme terhadap prestasi timnas dan ketertarikan publik pada pemain timnas secara berlebihan inilah yang merisaukan pelatih tim nasional, Alfred Riedl. Pemberitaan yang berlebihan ditakutkan dapat merusak konsentrasi pemain. Termasuk di dalamnya wawancara (bahkan bukan untuk progam olahraga), peliputan saat latihan, pemberitaan pemain secara komersil, dan lainnya.

Masih ingat iklan, “mau tau keseharian [seleb Indonesia idola kamu]? ketik Reg <spasi> [seleb Indonesia idola] ya” yang sempat bergentayang di saluran televisi Indonesia. Bachdim, si idola baru, pun sudah bisa kamu ketahui kesehariannya ) (klik disini). Either he thinks he acts like Beckham does the way Bambang Pamungkas sees him (click here) or he really does understand that football is indeed an industry.

Saat konsentrasi pemain tidak lagi sepenuhnya pada pertandingan, pelatih boleh ketar-ketir. Termasuk suporter yang menaruh harapan sangat besar pada keberhasilan timnas di Piala AFF tahun ini. Masih ingatkah kamu Hidetoshi Nakata pernah diperingati oleh pelatih Philippe Troussier pada Piala Dunia 2002 karena lebih memikirkan model rambutnya ketimbang permainannya di lapangan? Itu sindiran, pasti.

Peliputan saat latihan oleh media pun bisa menjadi petaka. Konsentrasi pemain terganggu karena kehadiran media. Atau wartawan malah membocorkan keadaan tim di media, yang notabene adalah konsumsi publik, dan tidak menutup kemungkinan untuk dibaca oleh tim lawan. Padahal kalau di luar negeri, setiap tim harus menyiapkan intelijen handal untuk mengetahu keadaan tim lawan.

Sesuatu yang berlebihan itu tidak pernah baik.

Tulisan ini tidak dimaksudkan untuk menyerang siapapun. Tulisan ini hanyalah suara penggemar yang sangat senang dengan apa yang sudah berhasil dicapai tim nasional Indonesia di Piala AFF 2010 sampai dengan tahap sekarang. Sangat besar harapan saya bahwa tim nasional kita dapat kembali memenangkan pertandingan melawan Filipina nanti malam dan lolos ke babak final.

Semoga nama-nama yang disebutkan pada postingan kali ini dapat mencetak gol untuk Indonesia, tidak menutup kemungkinan bagi pemain tim nasional lainnya. Amin.

Bagi kamu yang sudah ngeblog lama, mungkin judul postingan saya kali ini terdengar konyol. Tapi, ternyata masih banyak blog yang belum mempraktekkannya. Sang blogger bukannya menautkan kata yang dimaksud dengan tautan yang diingin dituju menambahkan link pada kata yang dimaksud tapi malah menuliskan mentah-mentah tautan (baca: link) yang dimaksud. Seperti gambar di bawah ini:

Jika kamu bersikeras untuk tidak melakukan penautan, maka kamu sebenarnya tidak memikirkan pembaca tulisan kamu. Tapi jika kamu melakukannya karena tidak tau bagaimana cara melakukannya, ini langkah-langkahnya:

1. Ketik kata yang dimaksud.

2. Block kata yang ingin ditautkan, pilih insert/add link pada dashboard penulisan.

Contoh gambar adalah pada blog wordpress. Jika kamu menggunakan blog dengan platform lain, silahkan cari icon yang sama pada dashboard penulisan blog kamu.

Jangan lupa memblock kata. Jika tidak diblock, icon insert/add link tidak akan aktif (seperti pada gambar di langkah 1)

3. Ketik alamat referensi yang ingin dituju. Judul tautan dapat dikosongkan saja. Centang pilihan jika ingin alamat referensi yang akan dituju terbuka di jendela baru (baca: new window) pada browser, atau kosongkan agar terbuka pada halaman baru (baca: new tab).

Jika sudah selesai, pilih Save Link.

5. Penautan selesai.

Jika pembaca memilih kata yang sudah ditautkan (pada gambar diatas: link), maka akan keluar halaman/jendela baru pada browser sesuai dengan alamat yang sudah direferensikan.

CARA LAIN melakukan penautan:

1. Ketik kata yang dimaksud.

Perhatikan icon pada dashboard penulisan saat Visual aktif.

2. Ubah body of message dari Visual ke HTML.

Setelah diubah, icon pada dashboard penulisan saat HTML aktif ikut berubah.

3. Tambahkan <a href=”"> sebelum kata yang ingin ditautkan, dan </a> setelah kata yang ingin ditautkan.

4. Ketik alamat referensi yang ingin dituju diantara dua tanda kutip.

5. Ubah kembali body of message menjadi Visual. Penautan selesai. Berikut adalah gambar yang akan muncul.
